This year the Domenici public policy conference features someone very experienced in international affairs. The former United States Ambassador to China Gary Faye Locke will speak.
The tenth annual event will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Las Cruces Convention Center in New Mexico. Foreign policy, education and workforce issues will be discussed.
The conference is organized by The Domenici Institute at New Mexico State University. It is held to carry on the legacy of former New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici.
From 2011-14, Locke served as the U.S. ambassador to China. He had previously served in President Barack Obama’s administration as the secretary of commerce.
Locke was the governor of Washington from 1997-2005. He began his political career in the Washington House of Representatives before being elected as the executive of King County.
Locke currently sits on the board of AMC Theatres and PATH. He is a native of Seattle who is a graduate of Yale University and Boston University School of Law.
