Carla Hall AgentAmerican celebrity chef and TV personality Carla Hall delivered a keynote speech about how to cook using smart choices for food to an audience over 350 people at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s annual heart health event at the Bridgewater Manor.

The Top Chef star was a finalist on the show in seasons five and eight, and she is currently a co-host on ABC’s food show The Chew since 2011. Hall also is an author of two popular cookbooks called “Cooking With Love: Comfort Food” and “Carla’s Comfort Foods” in which she gives detailed tips on how to cook heart-healthy meals. Hall comes from an upbringing of Southern food and a family history of high cholesterol, so her motivation to find a healthy way of cooking was a personal one.

Hall discussed with the audience how she managed to get to where she is in her career, and about the different steps she had taken to accomplish what she has. She also talked about how cuisines from around the world have many similarities and the ways that cooking meals can unite people together. In addition to that she informed everyone about how dishes can be inspired with different spices, and that a good plate of food can put anyone in a better mood.

The Nashville native conducted a cooking demonstration for the attendees of the event and showed them how to prepare one of the recipes from her cookbook, a cucumber-carrot slaw with crunchy rice noodles.
